Materials: Touching the Void
ART256, Studio Art Workshop: Material Exploration for Object Making
Traveling Time: June 17 - July 8, 2017 (22 days)
Do you want to have an adventure in an unfamiliar culture and apply these eye opening experiences to your art and design practices? If so, this is for you!
The focus of this trip is exploring the notion of “Touching the Void” through the native materials, objects, and architecture of Japan. The trip starts with a Japanese papermaking workshop in Tokushima. Afterwards students will visit the contemporary art museums on the rustic Naoshima island. The trip will continue on to Kyoto and Tokyo to visit temples, shrines, and museums to explore both traditional and contemporary Japanese culture. In Tokyo students will take a one-day workshop in creativity led by the guest artist Sayumi Yokouchi and will make small-scale artwork with materials they have chosen in Japan. |
